Mackay and Armstrong Beach

Mackay is a big place much bigger than we expected. A lot of construction (due to the mining boom) is going on. Central Caravan park where we stayed was full of workers again thanks to the mining boom.A big sugar cane area. Armstrong Beach was a lovely surprise about 50 kilometres south of Mackay. Right on the beach front and not too windy. The tides are amazing (either very high or very low up to 500 metres out to sea). We came for one day and stayed 3 nights. There were a lot of soldier crabs on the beach we have included some photos but they may not be not too clear

Airlie Beach

Very upmarket, backpacker and yuppy at the same time - a mini Noosa. Lots of construction and a lot of infrastructure (shopping centres, etc) Public Transport made it easy to get around. Free shuttle buses to restaurants and cruises also made getting around easy. Father's Day was great here

Bowen

Bowen was the place where they made the film Australia. The harbour lights caravan park where we stayed was a short walk from the fishermans co-op, yacht club and town. It is also the town with 28 murals depciting the history of the area.
